| Marysville Parks & Recreation Department's Youth Sports Forum 2001 |
The Marysville Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to present our first annual Youth Sports Forum. This series of four (4) FREE informational forums is designed to provide insight into the world playing and coaching Youth Sports. A wide variety of topics from sportsmanship to parent's role in their child's athletic performance will covered. All topics are suitable for players, coaches and parents of all ages and any sport. Each evening we will cover two different topics. Each topic will include a 45-minute discussion with a question and answer period at the conclusion . All forums will be held at the Marysville Pilchuck High School Auditorium from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

Dealing with Youth Sports Injuries -- Prevention and Rehabilitation
Kit Blue P.T. is the manager of Marysville' Summit Rehabilitation clinic. Kit is a graduate of the
University of Montana with a B.S. in Athletic Training and Pre Physical Therapy. He received his
degree in Physical Therapy from Northwestern University..
Weight Training for Youth Sports -- How much, how often and at what age
Dave Adamson A.T.C. of Summit Rehabilitation graduated from Whitworth College in Spokane with a B.A. in Biology, Teaching, Physical Education and Sports Medicine. Began his career by working as an intern with the Seattle Seahawks of the NFL and San Francisco Giants of MLB. Dave has coached and competed in national level powerlifting events. Dave also runs a camp designed for Junior High and High School aged athletes to work on speed, agility and endurance.

Sportsmanship in Competitive Athletics -- Yes it does exist
Peter Fewing, Head Coach of Seattle University Men's Soccer, Coach Fewing was chosen National Coach of the Year in 1997 while leading Seattle University to the NAIA National Championship. He was Regional Coach of the Year in 1990, 1997 and 1998. His teams have been recognized nationally on many occasions for their sportsmanship and were winners of the Nels Dahlquist Sportsmanship Award in 1997.
Coach the Female Athlete -- Little Girls to Women
Steve Thorson is a parent and volunteer coach. He played collegiate basketball at Central
Washington University and on various other sports teams, which has given him experiences and
an ability to relate to his players. For the past 10 years, Steve has successfully coached both boys
and girls teams in many different sports and levels. His coaching background ranges from
Recreation and Select- Soccer and Basketball, to Little League Softball and Baseball. Steve is
licensed by the United States Soccer Federation as a coach, referee, and associate referee
instructor.

Bruce Brown has been a teacher and coach for over 32 years at all levels from Junior High to College. He is currently Athletic Director at Northwest College, and has been employed by the NFL for the past 22 years. Bruce is a published author of two books and seven instructional videos. He is also Director of Proactive Coaching, a company that specializes in clinics for coaches parents and athletes.

Athletic Scholarships Opportunities -- The real story
Dan Mack is currently Activities Directory and Head Football Coach at Kamiak High School. He was Western Conference and Seattle Times Coach or the Year in 1999. Dan has coached several different sports at the High School level beside football including volleyball and basketball.
Academics and Sports -- it's all in the numbers
Scott Stokes is currently a Counselor at Marysville Pilchuck High School. Scott was also Head Football Coach for many years. He volunteers as a coach for many recreational sports.
Registration is not required. Those that attend all sessions will receive a Certificate of Attendance.
