Event Planned for Local Elementary School
MARYSVILLE,WA - On Friday, November 19th, One World Mapping Company, makers of MetroMap.com, will be presenting state-of-the-art computer mapping technology to students at Quil Ceda Elementary school.

Over 700 children and adults will learn how maps are used to help people understand important issues in our world today. The afternoon event will feature a live demonstration of GIS capabilities, using actual data from the City of Marysville, where Mayor Dave Weiser has proclaimed Nov. 19th to be "GIS Day in Marysville".

Children and adults will learn how Geographic Information Systems (GIS) help city officials manage the urban landscape and plan for future growth using computer mapping tools.

In addition, members of the Adopt-A-Stream Foundation will discuss the importance of wild Salmon habitat to our natural environment. Maps of the known locations of Chinook salmon, recently listed as a "threatened species", will also be displayed.

This event is part of National Geography Awareness week, November 15-19, 1999.

One World Mapping Company is teaming with local governments, the National Geographic Society, and the Association of American Geographers in a nationwide effort to educate over 1 million children on GIS Day, Friday November 19th.

GIS Day events recognize the growing use of computer mapping, or Geographic Information Systems, in our world today. Similar events will be held across the nation, signalling the emergence of GIS as a mainstream technology with tremendous impacts for our society and global understanding.
